My point and the reason for the title, "The End of Hope Hypothesis", is that if:
Humans have been irreversibly injured (and most have done it to themselves); and
Human fertility has been irreversibly impacted;
Then the dosed portion of the human race has just lost (or will eventually realise it lost) the two most important, basal things in life. That, I believe, is potentially enough for those people to lose hope.
When hope is lost, what does human behaviour descend to?
Survival and procreation is for animals.
Humans want salvation.
Those who are afraid of dying are already dead.
Those, who have nothing greater to live for than survival, are afraid of dying. They indeed, behave like animals.
